In-Glass Pet Doors in Las Vegas
Give your pet a convenient route outdoors while keeping your own door practical to use. An in-glass pet door places a purpose-made access opening within compatible glazing. Planning starts with the existing door or window, the pet that will use it, and the space on both sides of the glass.
As one of our specialty window and door projects, Agave Windows helps you define the complete installation: the glazing assembly, pet-door component, position and effect on the main door. Send a photo of the opening and tell us which animals need access. We can use that information to discuss whether this type of project fits your home before you choose a flap or order parts.

The short version
An in-glass pet door is built into a replacement glass unit made to fit your existing door or window frame. Size the opening to your pet and check that the sliding panel can still move past it.
01 of 09
Begin with the glass assembly
A pet door that looks small can still require a carefully specified replacement glass unit. The frame, glass construction, glazing pocket and pet-door fastening system have to work together. A product intended for one kind of panel is not automatically compatible with another.
Do not plan on cutting an opening into an existing tempered pane or completed double-pane unit. PetSafe's glass installation guidance specifically directs this work toward professional glazing assessment and fabrication at the appropriate manufacturing stage. The practical question is which approved glazing assembly can replace the existing glass while accepting the selected pet door. Read the manufacturer's glass-installation guidance.
The existing frame may be suitable to remain, but that cannot be established from a wide-angle photo alone. Identification, measurements and condition matter. Tell us about cracks, persistent fog between panes, hard operation or previous changes to the door so these concerns can be considered together.
In-glass access and an insert panel are different
An in-glass installation puts the pet opening within a glazed panel. A separate patio insert occupies part of the main sliding-door opening. That distinction affects appearance, usable human passage, locking arrangements and how the screen operates.
If preserving the main walkway is your priority, say so at the outset. If portability matters because you rent or expect to move, explain that too. We can frame the discussion around your priorities and the options actually compatible with your assembly. Avoid choosing from a photo without identifying which of these installation types it shows.

Size the opening for the animal using it
Choose the pet’s usable passage before the glass fabricator’s cutout. They are different dimensions: the flap has a clear opening for the animal, the pet-door frame has an outer size, and the glazing needs the manufacturer’s specific preparation and placement. Confusing those numbers can produce a correctly sized hole for the wrong component.
Measure the route, not only the pet’s weight
Follow the selected pet-door manufacturer’s sizing method. Body width and height, comfortable step-over and the animal’s movement are more useful than weight alone. A low opening that suits a small pet may still be too narrow for another animal in the household; a high step that clears door hardware may be uncomfortable for an older pet.
Make a simple full-size cardboard representation of the proposed clear passage and step-over at a safe open location. Let the animal approach without forcing it through. This is a way to identify an obviously awkward size, not a substitute for the manufacturer’s instructions or advice about a pet’s mobility.
| Dimension or condition | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Clear flap width and height | Space the animal actually passes through |
| Step-over from each finished surface | Effort required on both sides of the glass |
| Pet-door frame projection | Clearance as the main door moves |
| Prepared glass opening | Fabrication requirement for the exact pet-door model |
| Distance to glass/frame edges | Product-specific permitted placement |
Measure the step-over from the real indoor and outdoor surfaces. A flap comfortable from the room can be substantially harder to reach from a lower patio. Do not solve that by improvising a step in a human doorway or against a drainage feature; coordinate the complete route.
The Endura Flap in-glass system is an example of a purpose-made replacement glazing approach. Its existence does not establish compatibility with every frame. Final pet-door model, glazing construction and panel position need to be resolved together before fabrication.
For multiple pets, record the limiting needs separately: the largest required passage, the lowest practical step-over and any access restriction. An electronic control may identify an animal, but it does not make an unsuitable physical opening comfortable. Keep those decisions separate.
four steps, in order
How a Project Runs
- 1
Tell us about the project
Send your location, the approximate number of openings, and what you want to improve.
- 2
Review the openings and options
We discuss your priorities and assess the details that affect product selection and installation.
- 3
Define the work in writing
The proposal identifies the products and agreed installation scope so you can understand what the project includes.
- 4
Install and review the result
At completion, we review the installed products, operation, visible finish, and care information with you.

Position the pet opening around daily use
The best-looking position is not always the most useful. Consider the route from your pet's resting area to the outdoor space, furniture near the glass, and whether an exterior step or patio furnishing blocks the exit. An opening behind a sofa may be difficult to supervise or clean.
For a sliding door, the pet component must clear adjacent panels, handles and the frame throughout normal operation. The part that projects from the glass can matter as much as the visible flap opening. Panel location and the manufacturer's permitted installation arrangement should be settled before the replacement glazing is ordered.
For a fixed glazed panel, confirm that your pet can reach it from inside and outside without moving through a restricted or unsuitable area. For any arrangement, consider how you will close off access when needed. The human entrance should continue to open, close and lock as intended after the modification.
Keep the screen in the conversation
A pet route through the glass does not automatically create a usable route through a separate insect screen. Show the screen in your project photos, including where it sits when the main door is open and closed. Decide whether your household expects screened ventilation and pet access at the same time.
Do not assume a screen can be altered without a separate compatibility check. The desired sequence of glass door, screen and pet passage should be explained as one everyday routine. That makes a conflict easier to identify before any component is purchased.

Decide how access should be controlled
Pet-door systems differ in how they close, latch and restrict animal passage. Review the actual operating controls for the proposed unit and decide who will use them. Consider whether you want access available throughout the day or only during supervised periods.
A closing cover or pet flap is not a substitute for the security features of the home's main door, which our patio door security guide covers. Discuss the opening's location and the household's expectations with the installer. Ask what happens to the existing main-door lock and whether the proposed layout affects its operation.
If electronic access is under consideration, check the exact product's identification method, power needs, battery access and behavior during a loss of power. Also ask whether all your animals can use that system. These are product selection questions; the presence of an electronic feature does not by itself establish compatibility with your glass or frame.

Review glass appearance and comfort
Changing glazing for pet access changes more than the view through a small flap. The replacement assembly must fit the frame’s glazing system and the pet-door preparation, while the resulting panel must still operate normally. Identify the combined arrangement rather than treating the pet component as an unrelated accessory.
A replacement insulated unit may have different tint, reflection or spacer appearance from the retained adjacent glass. Compare the proposed glazing specification with the original where records exist, and discuss a visible mismatch before ordering. Matching a frame color does not guarantee matching glass appearance.
Separate original ratings from the modified assembly
The original door’s published energy or air-leakage rating describes its rated configuration. A new opening and pet-door component should not be assumed to inherit that exact result. Ask what documentation applies to the modified assembly and which manufacturer provides coverage for the glass, pet component and retained door.
This is especially relevant if the first aim was preserving an existing door warranty. Obtain written guidance before modification; our window warranty guide explains what to ask. A separate pet-door warranty can cover its own component without promising unchanged coverage for the entire original door.
For a hypothetical sliding panel, moving the flap slightly may improve pet reach but cause its interior housing to strike the adjacent panel during travel. The correct solution is to choose a permitted compatible location or a different arrangement before glass production. Reducing travel after installation is a real change to the human doorway and should never be an unnoticed consequence.
At handover, review four actions: main-door travel, main-door locking, flap movement and access closure. Keep the exact product records for each component. Clear glass and a working flap alone do not establish that the completed door still serves the household as intended.

What the project assessment should cover
The assessment connects the pet's needs with the condition and configuration of the existing opening. Useful details include:
- The door or window type, manufacturer identification if available, and which panel moves.
- The glass construction and dimensions required for the replacement assembly.
- The selected pet door's permitted glass preparation and installation location.
- The pet's clear passage needs and access on both sides of the opening.
- Clearance for the main door, locks, screen and adjacent panels.
- Visible damage or operating concerns that may need separate work, such as sliding glass door repair.
You do not need to remove glass stops, disassemble the door or take professional measurements before contacting us. Clear photos and a description of the goal are enough to request a project estimate. Final ordering measurements belong to the agreed installation process.

Compare the complete written scope
An in-glass pet-door quote should identify more than the flap. Ask whether it includes replacement glazing, the pet-door component, removal of the existing unit, installation materials and disposal. The agreement should also state which existing parts remain and whether any repair to the main door is included.
Confirm who supplies each component. A customer-supplied pet door still needs compatibility review; purchasing it first may limit the available glazing approach. If the selected component changes after measuring, the order should be checked again before fabrication.
Product preparation and the appointment at your property are separate parts of the schedule. Ask what must be confirmed before ordering and how the installation appointment will be coordinated once the correct materials are available. A standard delivery promise would be unreliable without a selected product and verified supply information.

Plan for installation and continued use
Arrange a secure place for animals during measuring and installation. Their familiar route may be unavailable while the glazing is being handled. Keep the work area accessible, and point out any alarms, blinds or furnishings attached near the door.
At handover, review the main door's operation, the pet flap's movement, the closing controls and any instructions supplied with the unit. Allow your pet to become familiar with the new passage in a controlled way. Installation establishes the opening; individual animals may need time and encouragement to use it.
Keep the product identification and care instructions. Ask how to clean the flap and glazing without damaging surfaces, how replacement flaps or seals are obtained, and which contact handles a glass concern compared with a pet-door component concern. Future service is easier when both parts of the installation are documented.

Start with your current door and your pet's needs
Tell Agave Windows where the opening is, which pet or pets will use it, and what you want to preserve about the existing door. Photos from inside and outside help us understand the proposed route. Include the screen and any visible manufacturer label if you can photograph them safely.
things people ask us
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an in-glass pet door be added without replacing the whole patio door?
Sometimes the project can focus on compatible replacement glazing, similar to glass-only replacement, while the main frame remains. The available approach depends on the frame condition, glazing construction and approved pet-door assembly. The assessment should identify what stays, what is replaced and whether the main door has separate operating problems.
Will the pet door prevent my sliding door from opening fully?
Its position and projection must be checked against the travel of the adjacent panel and hardware. Ask for the operating arrangement to be shown before ordering. A compatible in-glass layout and a separate patio insert can affect the human passage differently. If the door itself is worn, sliding glass door replacement may be the better starting point.
Can I provide a pet door I already bought?
Share the exact model and instructions before any glass is ordered. The pet component must be suitable for the proposed glazing thickness, preparation and installation position. A product intended for a solid door or a different glass assembly should not be assumed to fit.
What happens if I want to remove the pet door later?
Ask about the reversal plan when selecting the assembly. Removing the pet component does not restore an unbroken pane. Returning the opening to continuous glass would generally be a separate glazing project, with compatibility and appearance reviewed at that time.
